4 Distinct Field Watches From 3 Different Countries
In a lot of ways the first field watch could be considered the first men’s wrist watch as they were developed during the First World War by attaching straps to pocket watches making them easier to use in the trenches. Prior to that wrist watches were more of a female accessory as men used pocket watches. Because of this I like to have a few fields in my collection and these four are about as different as field watches can be.
First up is my echo/neutra Averau 39 Moonphase, an unusual field watch from this interesting Italian independent brand, with it’s moonphase complication and blacked out case it is without doubt my most unusual looking field watch. My Formex Field Earth Blue is possibly my most comfortable watch, and titanium feels like a natural choice for a field watch and with it’s sandwich dial, limited edition blue colour (only 100 of these), and distinct Formex case it’s quite the looker to. Kuoe Kyoto are a well respected Japanese independent that make vintage inspired beautiful watches and this Old Smith is no exception as well as beino my smallest watch with a diameter of 36mm. The Seiko Baby Alpinist is definitely my best known field watch and as nice as it is it’s no surprise that it’s so popular.
